Gillian Foster (Thomson, 1994) represented Australia in Soccer at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

Gillian’s soccer career commenced at the age of nine and as soon as she joined MLC School, she was a sports star. While at MLC School, Gillian was a member of the Softball, Athletics (Junior Champion in Year 7) and Cricket teams, and in Year 12 she was a representative in the 17 years girls Australian Indoor Soccer Team.

She was first identified as a future prospect for national women’s soccer when she became a member of the National Train-On Squad in 1996. After suffering a stress fracture in her foot in 1997, Gillian spent three determined years fighting her way back to be selected into the Australian Team, The Matildas, for the 2002 Australia Cup against South Korea.

Gillian later gained a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport for 2002 and 2003. In 2004 she competed at the Oceania Olympic Qualifiers in Fiji, where she scored her first international goal in the match against Fiji. Gillian is considered a spirited midfielder who could make incisive runs in attack.

Gillian played 39 times for Australia between 2002 and 2005. She was member of Australian team at the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the winning Australian team at the 2003 OFC Women’s Championship.

Locally, Gillian has played for Canberra Eclipse in the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) and Central Coast Mariners in the W-League. Her previous Clubs include: University of Canberra, Belconnen Utd, UCU Pumas (USA), NSW Sapphires, NSW Institute of Sport, Marconi.
