There was a wonderful sense of connection on campus when acclaimed concert pianist and MLC School Old Girl Andrea Lam (1999) ran a Masterclass.
Andrea, who recently appeared in the ABC television series The Piano, led a memorable masterclass in the Music Auditorium, working with advanced pianists Shangya Gao (Year 7), Sophie Fan (Year 7) and Chloe Miller (Year 11). Each student performed beautifully and had the opportunity to receive thoughtful, generous feedback from an internationally recognised artist who once sat where they now sit.
For those watching on, the masterclass was more than a lesson in musical technique. It was a reminder of the enduring strength of the MLC School community and the inspiration that comes when Old Girls return to encourage, guide and celebrate current students. Andrea’s warmth, insight and artistry offered students a glimpse of where their own musical journeys might lead.
As MLC School marks 140 years of educating young women, Andrea’s visit beautifully reflected the legacy of confidence, creativity and ambition that continues to connect generations of students and alumnae. Her return to campus was a proud and uplifting moment, celebrating not only her remarkable career, but the shared spirit of possibility that has long been part of an MLC School education.
